DC Cardioversion of Atrial Fibrillation
Patient: Ca. 50 year old man with new-onset atrial fibrillation. Presented in the ER with palpitations, mild dyspnea and fatigue. Initial ECG shows atrial fibrillation with a rapid ventricular response around 150 bpm. Onset of fibrillation was just few hours before hospital admittance. The ECG strip shows lead III from a 3-lead monitoring from the defibrillator.
ECG description:
- Atrial fibrillation with rapid ventricular response. Rate is around 150 bpm.
- A DC (direct current) monophasic shock at 100J is delivered and successfully converts the arrhythmia into a normal sinus paced rhythm.
